Raina Simmons became the principal of Achievement First Harford Summit Middle School at the beginning of the 2022 school year. Most recently, she served as an Academic Dean, Principal in Residence, and Interim Principal at Elm City Elementary. Ms. Simmons previously worked as an ELA and Special Education teacher in 4th, 6th, 7th, and 8th grade. She enjoys working collaboratively with students and parents to maximize learning opportunities. Ms. Simmons has been celebrated and honored as both a Distinguished and Master teacher throughout her time with AF.
She was born and raised in New Jersey and has been an educator for 12 years. She earned her Bachelor’s Degree in Education with a concentration in General & Special Education from the University of Hartford and a Master’s Degree in Education from Johns Hopkins University. Ms. Simmons holds her 092 Administrator’s Certificate from the University of Bridgeport and is currently pursuing her doctoral degree. She has a passion and love for family and can most often be found enjoying local eateries in her spare time.
