Today marks the start of Women’s History Month. For the next 31 days (and beyond), we celebrate women who have cracked open doors and fought for equity in communities across the country. As much as this month is a celebration of the past and the trailblazing women throughout history, it is also a time when we recognize that the future is present. There is so much hope in knowing that today’s women and girls walk tall in the footprints left by the giants who came before. And there’s even more hope in knowing girls and women are still blazing new trails. In so many different ways in public and private life, women have fought tirelessly for a better life for all.

This March, in keeping with the 2022 Women’s History Month theme, we honor all women. Specifically, we recognize the work of caregivers, frontline workers, and all women that have provided healing and hope.

As the National Women’s Alliance states, “Women as healers harkens back to ancient times. Healing is the personal experience of transcending suffering and transforming it to wholeness. The gift of hope spreads light to the lives of others and reflects a belief in the unlimited possibilities of this and future generations.”

The hope spreads through all the girls. In our schools and in schools across the country, they feel the presence and power of their identities.

We see the light shining bright in our children who know they are Black Girl Magic. We see the unlimited possibilities of our future generations in our modern-day, personal, and national sheroes: Simone Biles, Issa Rae, Supreme Court nominee, Ketanji Brown Jackson, teachers, school leaders, mothers, and so many others. The future is present. And as we observe Women’s History Month, we celebrate this future so many great women have made possible.
