We are so excited to welcome families to our newest school, AF Ujima High School! Achievement First Ujima High School is a public charter school located in Brooklyn, NY within the Bushwick neighborhood. We are focused on ensuring 100% of students will be accepted into four-year colleges and universities.

  • Nana Effah

    Nana Effah

    Nana Effah is the founding principal of Achievement First Ujima High School. Prior to this role, Nana served as the academic dean for history and ninth grade school leader at AF University Prep High. Nana had impact across multiple teams over her tenure at AF University Prep. She began as director of school operations (DSO) and went on to serve as interim regional DSO for NY high schools and DSO coach, before transitioning to the instructional side. Since becoming an academic dean, she has also served as dean of the arts and 10th grade. Nana had a career in international development & adult political education focused on Central & West Africa, before pivoting to work in schools. She earned a bachelor’s degree in economics, French, and francophone studies from Vassar College, a master’s in international affairs from Columbia University’s School of International & Public Affairs, and attended the Relay Principal Fellows program. A native of Ghana and Queens, Nana is deeply committed to providing a meaningful high school experience for scholars that prepares them to excel in their post-secondary choices, and to be change-makers and disruptors in their future careers and lives.
